Effective Governing Body: How to Monitor the School’s Performance
Governors can judge whether the school’s strategy is correct, analyse strengths and identify areas for development.
Now more than ever before, governing bodies are being asked to focus on school’s accountability in securing the best possible education for all learners. The Effective Governing Body: How to Monitor the School’s Performance CD aims to get the most out of the school’s strategic leadership team to support school improvement.
The materials reflect the latest Ofsted guidance on self-evaluation and steer governing bodies through the introduction of the new School Profile. The CD provides advice, examples and customisable templates for governors’ use; these comprise elements for inclusion, the governing body’s role in compilation, questions governors will want to ask and the governors’ role in monitoring/evaluating in practice.
These tools will enable governors to judge accurately whether the school’s strategy is correct, analyse strengths and identify areas for development. The CD focuses on the key strands required to monitor progress, specifically the seven principal questions that are required to be answered in the School Profile.
The Effective Governing Body: How to Monitor the School’s Performance CD covers areas that include:
• Characteristics of the school
• Views of learners, parents/carers and other stakeholders
• Achievements and standards
• Personal development
• Quality of teaching and learning, curriculum guidance and support
• Leadership and management
• School effectiveness
• The governing body and the SIDP
This CD will enable governors to accurately and effectively monitor the school’s progress. It demonstrates and assists governors by providing practical tools for collecting evidence, analysing the school’s strengths and areas for improvement, and planning effective strategies to strengthen and develop performance.
