Senior Editor

The job:
We are looking for someone with significant editorial experience and a track record of successfully managing multiple projects on time and within budget, to manage project schedules and deal with editorial queries.  This will be someone who can ensure that deadlines are never missed; monitor and control editorial budgets; and liaise effectively with the commissioning editor, production controller and marketing department.

The senior editor will also manage their own projects all the way through from start to finish, including proofreading and copy editing where appropriate.

The ideal person will:

  • be educated to degree level or equivalent
  • have excellent prioritisation and time-management skills
  • have sufficient understanding of the UK education market to be able to judge appropriate levels during the production process
  • thrive on team working and take part in all aspects of the editorial process
  • have an excellent eye for detail, as well as a proactive ‘can do’ attitude

Project Editor

The job:

  • Manage projects all the way through from start to finish – monitoring milestones and deadlines, and taking corrective action where necessary
  • Produce project schedules and liaise with production manager and editorial team
  • Liaise with authors and freelancers
  • Prepare and communicate briefs for software developers and designers
  • Check and approve proofs
  • Provide key information for marketing and website purposes
  • Deal with administration involved in managing projects.

The ideal person will:

  • be eucated to degree level or equivalent
  • have excellent time management and project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing multiple projects on time and within budget
  • have a background in or an awareness of education and the issues that affect educational publishing
  • possess excellent communication skills
  • have editorial experience in a market-driven environment
  • take a ‘can do’ approach - happy to take part in all aspects of the editorial process
  • be creative
  • be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • have an excellent eye for detail
