This Self-Evaluation in Schools CD is designed to help school leaders write and use self-evaluation efficiently.
Rigorous self-evaluation lies at the heart of every good and improving school, and is a strong indication of focused and effective leadership and management. The 2012 Ofsted Evaluation Schedule gives schools the opportunity to compare their own judgements about each area of their work against a national standard.
The CD gives guidance on each part of the self-evaluation process, explaining:
- Who should deal with each section
- What types of evidence should be gathered together
- How a school should use the Ofsted Evaluation Schedule to make a grade judgement
- What, precisely, the school should be doing to improve its grade or to maintain the grade if the judgement is that the provision is already ‘outstanding’
- How the school can identify which improvements should form part of its strategic priorities
- How to update the self-evaluation summary on a regular basis
- How the governing body should challenge and support, or monitor the school’s progress towards a higher grade.
The CD makes close reference to the 2012 Ofsted Evaluation Schedule and addresses:
- Achievement of pupils at the school
- The quality of teaching
- Behaviour and safety of pupils
- The quality of leadership and management of the school
- Overall effectiveness.
It also includes guidance on evaluating:
- The school context
- Key strengths
- Areas for improvement and links to strategic planning
-
Progress since the previous inspection.
